A Post-Graduate Institute Affiliated to HPU, Shimla/SPU, Mandi
NAAC Accredited with Grade 'B'

Chemistry Department

Established in 1980, the Department of Chemistry comprises of highly competent faculty members. Each faculty member is engaged in different academic and research activities. The faculty members have published a large number of research papers in various journals of national and international repute. The Department is catering to the need of more than 1400 students at UG level. With the introduction of postgraduate (PG) courses in 2010 with intake of 40 students, the Department has acquired new dimensions of qualitative growth. Every year, our students secure places in top ten positions in the merit list of the university. The PG programme focuses on three frontier areas of chemical sciences namely inorganic, organic and physical chemistry.

The Department has four well established laboratories, equipped with modern technologies of analysis for undergraduate and postgraduate students. To highlight the importance of the subject of Chemistry among young students, the department has started organizing different programmes at entry level.

Maharaja Laxman Sen Memorial (MLSM) College, Sundernagar being a constituent college of the proposed Cluster University at the initiative of the ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, the Department proposes to introduce different research courses and establish its own placement cell.
